My
work is based on abstract concepts. It is
about taking the unreal and transforming
it into something tangible. By combining
traditional and contemporary materials I
strive to form a unity between past,
present and that which is abstract. My
current work poses the question What
is Time does it really exist or is
it simply an abstract concept?
Inspired
by both the instruments used to measure
time and the language commonly used to
describe time my work for
2009 begins with some of the familiar
elements from clocks. By depicting such
elements, which would normally be moving
parts, as static structures my exhibit
suggests that time stands
still and maybe it is us who move through
time. To create these contemporary
structures I have used traditional
techniques and fabrics with metal to
bridge the gap between traditional and
contemporary.
Continuing
this theme my work for 2010 will
interpret time in the more abstract
paradigm of the IV dimension, where waves
of possibilities exist.
Mixing
contemporary and traditional materials I
continue my style portraying the
interconnectedness that now exists
between the living and the inert - the
human and the manufactured. With this
unusual alliance, created by such diverse
materials, I invite the viewer to look
beyond the usual associations and seek
out the concept of my work on a more
symbolic level. It is the unique
interpretation and mixing of materials
which most excites me and is always an
intrinsic part of what I am trying to
express. As with all my work colour,
texture and symbolism are fundamental to
the meaning of my work.
