I was brought up in rural Essex and the close observation of the natural world around me was part of both my formal education and my playtime. The seasons and the landscape play an intrinsic part in my mood and personality which naturally reflect themselves in my work. My traditional childhood included learning the hand craft skills of sewing and woodwork and later ceramics.

Consciously and unconsciously listening and absorbing with interest local folklore and the medicinal use of plants and the myths surrounding them. This became the starting point when I began researching a new project, understanding a plant throughout it's seasons, how it grows and reproduces, and what lives on, in or around it all help me to understand it when it comes to translating a plant into stitch, bringing some three dimensional elements into focus.
