My
inspiration usually comes from
the natural world around me. I
take my camera and sketchbook
whenever I'm out in the
countryside. My husband is used
to finding me in amongst the
weeds or climbing onto a rusting
and rotting boat along the
sea-shore. A landscape
can evoke a mood; it can set my
heart pounding. I try to capture
the whole moment of observation -
the taste, the feel and emotions
- as well as the visual, saving
that precious moment for another
day.
I see a
moment in time which will soon be
gone, I've seen it, I've felt it,
and Ive loved it. I
don't want to forget it. I work
from the heart and believe that
with my use of dyes, various
fabrics, papers and materials of
all kinds together with stitch, I
can capture that special moment
for myself and others to see. I
love the challenges of different
materials.
I love the
way nature looks after itself
with the new shoots arriving in
the spring, the flowers in summer
meadows, autumn's array of reds
and brown's and the bare, bleak
trees against a red winter
sunset. I love the late summer
when plants are fading and the
seed - heads appear, the
faded colours are as important to
me as the full blooms.
I love the
different skies, particularly the
storm clouds interspersed with
rays from the sun.
These last
few years I have been studying
seed - heads, photographing them,
drawing them and trying to
recreate them for posterity. It's
very important for me to look at
all the sections not just the
outer part.
I enjoy
manipulation and layering fibres
and fabrics together with
stitches to experiment and find a
special way to interpret my
thoughts and feelings.
